Losing Video quality after transferring to Imove??

Higuy,does anyone know why I lose some quality in my 2mins movie that I am transferring from my camcorder to imovie?? I am transferring via firewire and when transferred it loses some quality and plus when I convert it to mpeg to be played on windows Powerpoint it loses even more quality?? please help anyone ??
