I am trying to find a good (free if possible) converter to convert some .avi video to a format I am able to burn on DVD to be played on my tv's dvd player.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Roxio Toast does this easily, although it's not free. Excellent program if you do a lot of video conversion and CD/DVD burning.

Liquid and computers don't mix. It might seem simple, but we see an incredible amount of people post here about spills. Keep drinks and other liquids away from your expensive electronics!

Divx Doctor will convert avi files to Quicktime .mov files.
Then you can use whatever DVD burning app you have.
