Is there an external burner I can buy that would speed up the process of me burning home videos to DVD? It takes about three hours to encode and burn a video using idvd. I am using a macbook pro. Is there something I can buy to speed that process up to an hour or shorter?

Thanks.

If you monitor the processing of making the DVD. You will find that most of the time is taken up in the encoding process and not the burn stage. So if you were to get a faster DVD burner, you will only shorten the burning time and not the encoding time.

I picked up a Lacie external DVD burner with LightScribe. It seems to burn a million times faster. Then flip the discs over and you can burn pictures and/or text right onto the DVD. I am very pleased. I believe they have come way down in price too.
