I need a litle help converting some MP4 movie files to play on my home DVD player for my daughter. She watches them on the PC sometimes but while she is ill I would like to convert them to DVD playable format so she can watch them in bed.

How do I do it?

G'day big fella,

Sorry to hear your daughter is ill. Hope she gets well soon.

The only suggestion I have is you could try to do it using ffmpegX.

In all honesty I'm not even really sure ffmpeg can do it for you ... and I don't have Toast so I can't say if that will do it either.

I think you need to have the video_ts and audio_ts folders on the DVD for it to be recognised and ffmpegX can turn a movie file (AFAIK) into DVD format but I can't say for sure about the mp4 format.

If you don't have ffmpegX installed already, it's a wee bit fiddly cos you need to download the app then seek out 2 more files to download (MPlayer & Mencoder). There are links pointing you to those files but it can be confusing at first.

No doubt someone else will chime in with a possible easier method than mine.

.:EDIT:.

I'm just testing out my theory and will get back to you on that.

I just read this:

Quote:
ffmpegX Reads the following input formats:

MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DIVX, XviD, non-encrypted VOB and VIDEO_TS, Quicktime .MOV, .DV, .WAV, Real Audio, Real Video, H.263, MP4 H.264, PGM, YUV, PPM, AC3, PCM8/16 bits, mulaw/Alaw, WMA-1/2, SUN AU format, MP2, MP3, AAC, 3GP, FPS1, ALAC, and even more formats.

Converts the above formats to DivX, AVI XviD, H.264 MP4, MOV, DV, 3GP, Sony PSP, MP2, MP3, AAC, AC3, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, VCD, CVD, SVCD, KVCD, KSVCD, DVD, KDVD and MPEG-TS with complete control over encoding options.
QUOTE Thanks

Well I converted my mp4 file into a folder containing an audio_ts & video_ts folder which I then opened DVDPlayer and pointed it at the video_ts folder and am now watching the converted movie. I would imagine that if I burnt this to a disc, I could play in on a dvd player connected to my TV. The problem is though, I don't have an external DVD player. So this is speculation.
