In FCP 5 when ever I change the speed of a clip it will shift my entire timeline down, throwing off all my timing---kind of like a ripple tool. Is there any way to shut this off or get around it---It drives me crazy---Help me out if you can...

Well, changing the speed of a clip effectively changes it's length, thus causing the ripple. If you want to change speed, but not effect any of the timeline, the easiest way to do so, would be to change it's speed *before* making edits afterwards. But you could use the Track forward tool (t) with Shift held down to select all of your edits past the point that you're talking about, change she speed, track forward and drag everything back into place.
