iDVD - will PAL DVDs play in the States?

Hi,

I am in the UK and have burnt a 100 DVDs for a client in PAL (European) format.

However, my client wants to send them to the USA. And your format is NTSC. So obviously they won't playback on a DVD player through the TV.

My question is: will they play on US PCs and Macs?

Should play fine on computers, as long as you haven't put a region code on them.

Most standalone DVD players & TV's should be able to handle them as well...

Actually, it's not true that PAL discs will play on most standalone DVD players. A friend from the UK sends me PAL discs and I can ONLY play them on my super-cheapo Cyberhome player (but not my more expensive Panasonic DVD recorder).

Whenever I want to share the UK discs with other US friends, I burn them from the Cyberhome player to the Panny recorder and then copy those Panny-burned discs on the computer.

Funny,

All DVD players over here can handle NTSC format discs, so I figured it would be the same over the pond...

Oh well, learn something every day.
