Hi guys, I'm new to the site but I'm hoping someone might be able to help me.

I got a 15" MBP in 2010 and although I've had no trouble with it until now. It's recently started to freeze when I'm running very few programs and I have to turn the machine off by the main switch and restart it. It happens in chrome & safari as well as itunes & various adobe programs.

As I'm a video editor, I've been very nervous about starting a project in case I lose something I may not have saved straight away, or in case it doesn't power on next time. Sometimes I get a colored line across the screen and I have to power off, other times it simply freezes.

I also have trouble with some programs which have not installed correctly such as versions of dreamweaver and illustrator which I installed from a friend's laptop, and now don't open and cause errors.

I was a windows user until 2010 and if this kind of thing happened I would usually restore to factory settings but there doesn't seem to be a mac equivalent. Would anyone be able to point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance,
PM

Well the software installed illegally will not work and that is typical of what happens when software used that way. How much free space on the hard drive and assuming you have Snow Leopard on it, you do not say, boot from the install disc, and go to Utilities in the Menu Var and run repair Disk and see what is reported. The drive could be on the way out.

Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!
