What software can people recommend for purchase, to use for merging videos? How can I avoid malware?

No need to purchase anything for simple merges - QuickTime will do that with ease. Open up the first clip in QuickTime. Next, drag the next part onto the QT window and place it after or before the first clip in the spot that becomes visible (this will make more sense when you try it).

Only in QT7, yes? I can't get it to work in QT X.

Nope, works in QTX. What format are the movies you tried to merge?

Some mp4s. Just to try your method. As I said, it worked in QT7, although I didn't seem to have any choice as to placing the second video to whether it played first or second. Just had to drop it in the main window.

If I tried to drop it in QTX, it just flicked back to the Finder window.

Hmmm, works perfectly fine here:

Try it with a different video.

Nope. I don't get that window at the bottom either. Are you on Lion? I'm on SL.

I am on Lion so it's very possible that this feature is only available in the version of QTX that shipped with Lion.

Try using MPEG Streamclip. Squared 5 - MPEG Streamclip video converter for Mac OS X I put the videos to be joined in the same folder in the order I want them joined. Select both in the open dialog using shift click. When opened they will be joined. to help me I renamed them with numbers (untitled1' untitled2, etc) though I am not sure that's necessary.

Is there something wrong with iMovie? Why suggest a bunch of other downloads when there is something already on the machine to do what the OP is asking for.

Although, considering there is no information about the computer or OS the OP is working on, he may be on Windows, for all we know, and can use Movie Maker, installed with windows XP and up...

Hi Deckyon,

Is joining clips in iMovie simple? I've been trying to figure this out for a long time, and haven't been able to find out how to do it.

After using iMovie HD for a couple years, I just started using iMovie 11. OS 10.6.8.

thanks for any help.

you drag them into the timeline one after another. It is hard to get any simpler.
