hey folks, new to this message board here as of yesterday and i started ready the dvd ripping thread on how to. and im happy to say it worked awesomly now here's my issue
i walk into radio shack here at work and ask the nice lady at the counter can i get a 5 pack of dvd's please. she replies "with what kind ?", what kinda i say i dunno a normal dvd i can record to. so she tells me well there are 2 different kinds there are DVD-R's or DVD+R's.
im running the first version of the powerbook g4 17 the 1 ghrtz model anyone know which one i should go with or has anyone heard of these before ?

I believe you should be using DVD-R. I purchased an external DVD burner , and have tried Apple's DVD-R and Imation's DVD-R. I think you can use any DVD-R, if you burner them at the slower speed. By using the slower speed, I have not had any problems.

what brand name of DVD-r's would suggest to use for best performance ?

That is a good question. I have only used Apple and Imation. I have purchased some Fuji disks, but have not used them yet. For me they are all about the same.

I tend to use Imation CD-Rs, so I may end up using Imation DVD-Rs. I prefer the clean silver top surface to write on over the white ones.

These are the DVD's that I use.
