How can I easily do this in iMovie?

I have iMovie '09. I have a 10 minute clip of an interview with my uncle. I want to put his voice over some photos I have taken. I know how to separate his voice from the clip and then insert the photo, but I have to make sure to delete the proper sequence from the interview clip, otherwise the sound and visual are not in sync. This takes a long time and is easy to mess up.

Am I doing this the correct way? Or, is there a better way to do this? I want to try out Final Cut Pro since I have heard this should be easy to do in that version.

Use the cutaway feature...drag the photo(s) to the desired area and drop ON the clip...when the drop down menu appears click on cutaway....as the original clip plays it will cutaway to the dropped in photos while retaining the ongoing dialogue....

Is there a trick if I have several photos I wish to cut-away to and show in sequence? If I have more than 1 photo I have to make sure that each cut-away lies directly up against the previous photo.

I have a sequence with 5 photos so a process to make sure they are flush all the time would be great.

I don't see why not...just place them as close as you can and once they're placed just above the timeline....drag them together so they are in succession....Should work fine. Obviously you'll be doing this one at a time.
