I would like to buy a recorder that records HDMI. However, the one I am looking out only has HDMI In, HDMI Out, and Thunderbolt. My Macbook Pro does not have a Thunderbolt port, so is there anyway to convert the Thunderbolt to a Firewire 800 port? I realize it would only work as fast as the Firewire. Any help is appreciated. Thanks a lot.

Thunderbolt is backward compatible with the Mini Display Port adapter. Whether or not it would work from your MBP's MDP to the Thunderbolt input on the recorder is another matter. You would just have to test it.

I have to admit I was disappointed when I actually read your post, hoped that finally the promised adapters were starting to hit the street.

But, no (unless something has changed in the last few days) all we have is announcements of coming adapters but no actual product.

I've always wanted to be smart, handsome and modest. But, I guess I'll have to be satisfied with two out of three . . .

Things have changed.

LaCie Little Big Disk ships with Thunderbolt, SSD | Electronista

Belkin demos Thunderbolt Express Dock at IDF | Electronista

The latter isn't out just yet, but coming soon. The little big disk is definitely out, saw it at the Apple Store in Vancouver the other day.
