I am using a Sony video camera for video capturing. As I transfer my videos into my iMac, quicktime player does not play them. It says something like this: "The document 123 could not be opened. The movie is not in a format that QuickTime Player understands." The format of the videos from my cam is MPEG.

How do I fix this? Thank you so much!

Either try playing it using VLC, or transcode it to a compatible Quicktime format using Handbrake.

Please verify and include the exact model/year of your Mac and OS X version number (available from "About This Mac", then "More Info" on the Apple menu).
