Apple TV & AVI movies in ITUNES

I recently purchased an apple tv being told that i can watch movies from my hard drive through itunes over my home network. First none of my movies are in a format to watch through itunes. How do i watch AVI movies in Itunes without having to convert hundred of GB of movies over?

Try AirFlick Want to stream to ATV2 without JailBreaking it... Then this might be for you !!!
or
Jailbreak and install XBMC
or
use Handbrake to convert the files and add to iTunes.

If it were me, as mrplow stated in the last option - I'd convert it - if for no other reason then if you ever plan to have an iPhone/iPod touch/iPad you'll want it in a container and codec that will be compatible. Plus, depending on the nature of your machine, transcoding on the fly to support video even through airflick may not work well - you'll have to try it.
