What are the acceptable format for iPad movies? I download movies and got some from friends and wanted to know what iTunes would accept so I can sync them to my iPad 2 for traveling?

You can also download the CinePlayerX app from the app store (other media players are available). This will play most formats.

External hard disk acquisition addict - but admitting the problem is the first step to a robust backup

Cool, my quesiton is...if it's not the proper format for iTunes to accpet it then how will this app help? Or do you sync the videos through the app in iTunes? Because if iTunes won't take the format then u can't put it on the iPad

Thats how you do it. I have the VLC app and when you sync your device to itunes go into your apps, scroll down and you'll see a section to add videos to the app.

I have VLC on my iPad, but I believe it's no longer available due to (IMO) a hissy fit between open-source devs.
