Over a year later and still trying to stop using my PC programs and learn how to achieve the same result using my mac. I want to make files that I can put in iTunes to load onto my iPod Touch and iPhone 4 from dvd movies I own. I have read lots of posts here and I am still confused. Can I do this using Toast Titanium 10 alone, or do I have to use Handbrake and VLC?
Hopefully someone can help me with this? Thanks.

Handbrake is what you need. Hands down the best, and with built in presets for iPod/iPhone you can't go wrong.
Toast would be required only to burn to disc.

It's one of my favorite and most used pieces of software, I'm amazed it's still free, I'd happily pay for it.
And yes, I gave benefit of doubt to the OP, but of course, we can't discuss piracy (if that's the intention )

Not heard of it, just looked. May be interesting, so will give it a look. Lets see how advanced it's x264 settings are.

I had no intention to make an illegal copy. Just copy a movie I bought on dvd into ipod format to put on my iphone. If that is illegal then I will never discuss it again. Please advise, as there was no ill intention here.

The problem lies in that the illegal part is circumventing copy protection, something that isn't avoidable when doing this.
It's kind of silly if you compare it to CD's for example, but those are the rules.
No one is saying it can't be done, and we have pointed you in the direction you need, it's just that we can't be specific.
I'm quite sure you had no ill intention at all.
