How can I sync subtitles using VLC?

I googled everywhere and cant find the instructions right,I have a foreign movie and all subs that I DL seems to be out..I know pple do it in VLC,some says pressing H J key,but I dont see any change...Any help?

McYukon is offline
In my version of VLC (0.9.6) the f and g keys set the audio delay, h and j set subtitle delay.

this is what somebody said in one forum about this movie,maybr hes on windows but if its a way to do it in mac can somebody tell me how
...set the sub delay in VLC to 19450ms and your good to go !!!

How can I do it?

I am using VLC 1.1.12 and the h j keys work for me. Sometimes I have to quite far to make them sync but they always do eventually.
