Reduced quality

Hi all

i've been looking at some cameras and hdd camcorders but none export to AVI or DV for FCP or imovie to work with but i have seen a program so i can convert and export to AVI or DV.

But i want to see if anyone has done this and if it effects the quality much especially if you edit the video and export to 16:9 compared to 4:3.

First, do not convert to AVI for Mac editing software.

Second, find if the cameras you are looking at are supported via the 'Supported Devices' section on this Apple page.

Depending on the camera codec, FCP will either import the steam with little change (DV) or convert it (AVCHD) to something appropriate for editing. You don't want to have to go through an extra tool if you can help it, without good reason.

The camera records in some format, and upon import, the software does the conversion, not the camera.

one of the cameras i was looking at didnt come up on the list, but i'm going to look at the others in the list and see whats similar.

To add to the confusion, the camera might even work.
