Ok, so I've been pulling my hair out trying to use my Canon HF200 camera with my PC...so I'm going to try to use it with my mac. This is what I want to do, directly capture live video from my camcorder to iMovie 09....I tried using the help on iMovie, but I'm completely lost.

Thanks guys!

Can't do it. Not without some other analog video input connected to the Mac (like a capture device of some sort such as an Elgato EyeTV unit or Hauppage (sp?) HDPVR, etc.).

The HF200 only has a USB interface that is only used on the Mac to allow transfer of the footage off of the SD card.

If you want to live stream into iMovie, you're easier setup would be getting an HDV camcorder that would supply you with a firewire connection. There are VERY FEW SDHC or HDD based consumer camcorders that offer firewire connections.

My Macs: Late 2013 rMBP w/ 750m; Mac mini G4, 1.25 GHz, 512m ram (server); Late 2011 11" MBA, 1.8GHz i7, 4Gig Ram, 256Gig SSD, HD3000; Powerbook 12" G4 1.33GHz running Debian as a server; Apple TV (1080p version)
