Hey guys, just wondering if you can help....

I have a bunch of 720p recorded boxing fights that are all currently .mkv files...i would like to transfer them to the HDD of my PS3 but the PS3 does not support the .mkv container....

So i'm looking for a program (preferably free) that will allow me to convert the files to a PS3 friendly format while keeping the A/V quality of the original file???

any help would be awesome...

You can use Handbrake ( HandBrake ) to convert from mkv into something more ps3 friendly like H.264 MP4.

Also, if your ps3 is networked with your Mac, you can always use the PS3 Media Server program:
Downloads - ps3mediaserver - Project Hosting on Google Code

to stream the video to the ps3, which I think can take the mkvs natively.

My Macs: Late 2013 rMBP w/ 750m; Mac mini G4, 1.25 GHz, 512m ram (server); Late 2011 11" MBA, 1.8GHz i7, 4Gig Ram, 256Gig SSD, HD3000; Powerbook 12" G4 1.33GHz running Debian as a server; Apple TV (1080p version)

What do you mean by multiple parts? like one show spread across multiple files?

yes, basically...ive actually gotten the files combined...but i can't get ANY video converters to recognize the file to convert it...

it plays in VLC...but handbrake won't work, ffmpegx, MKV tools....none of them will do ANYTHING with it...

Maybe you ought to separate out the mkv to multiple files using mkvtools/mkvmerge to selectively take out the video and audio tracks to put it so it's one a/v combo per mkv, then convert and then use an editor (ie: iMovie) to merge the files together.

that is the problem though....mkvtools will do nothing with the mkv file....

if i try to open the file with mkvtools i get this error...

Quote:
The command exited with a non-zero status.

Do Shell Script Statement: grep 'J Track ID' '/users/Ant/Desktop/Ga/ag_vsmk_ii.mkv.info1.log
the resulting log file contains this....

Quote:
dyld: Symbol not found: _clock$UNIX2003
Referenced from: /Applications/MKVtools.app/Contents/Resources/mencoderintel
Expected in: /usr/lib/libSystem.B.dylib

Edit: Update....mkvMerge DOES recognize the file....

gives me two tracks

V_MPEG4/ISO/AVS (ID 1, type: video)
A_AC3 (ID2, type: audio)

now idk what to do at this point...but im happy that SOMETHING recognizes the file at least...
QUOTE Thanks
