hi, do you know where would be a god place to buy older mac software? i'm looking for final cut studio, the first version. i got my hands on a powerbook g4 and i think this suite would be the best to fulfill my needs, the only problem is that i can't find it on ebay.

tanks for the amazon link. but i think i'll need the first version of fina cut studio or final cut pro v3. they do hd anyway and are probably more easy to handle with a powerbook

That link was the first version of FCS (with Final Cut Pro 5). I don't know if anything earlier then FCS2 does HD or not, I didn't use the products back then...

Final Cut first supported HD video with version 3. The first version designed for HD was 4.5, also known as Final Cut HD. I still own FCHD (no, I'm sorry, it's not for sale) and it'll run just fine on a G4 with Mac OS X 10.2 and up I think.

FCHD lacks HDV support, though. You'll need to go to version 5 for that, so be warned. The major feature-set for High Definition video was cemented in FCS 5.0. Grab 5.1 if your G4 is 867MHz or more and don't look back.

If not, look for FCHD 4.5. It'll be absolutely fine!
