Looking for a smaller sized media for VOB files
I have some DVD's my uncle sent me of his trip here, just a bunch of home movies, and I used Mac The Ripper to rip the DVD and pulled just the video files out of the DVD.

The files are pretty big however, and I want to backup a bunch of home made DVD's to a external HD, but like I said they are big. What programs could I use to convert the VOB files to smaller sizes and/or perhaps even a different extension/file type? VOB isn't too versatile from what I understand, I could be wrong. Any help would be appreciated.

Handbrake will make AVI's or any other format you choose, and so will ffmpegx.

    Late 2013 rMBP, i7, 750m gpu, OSX versions 10.9.3, 10.10
+1 for handbrake. Plus it's got a fairly easy to use front end interface. FFMpegX is very capable, but harder to use IMHO.

Interesting, in that I find it the other way around! Either way, both are valid for sure.
