I'm attempting to convert a few tapes from a 1998 analog Hi8 camcorder (Sony CCD-TRV75) to my 2009 MBP.

I understand that I need something called an "analog-to-digital converter." From what I've read, I will need to run an A/V cable from the camcorder to the A/D converter box, and a Firewire cable from the A/D converter box to the MBP.

Does this sound right? Can someone recommend an affordable brand of Analog-to-Digital converter?

QUOTE Thanks

I assume your camera doesn't have firewire on it? If it doesn't, then yeah, you'll need an AD converter box to ingest the footage.

Elgato I believe sells a device that will do that or you can look at this device from Pinnacle...
