Having trouble with video

My friend videotaped our volleyball tournament and he has windows and he uploaded it all from his laptop onto a disk, and i put the disk in my imac and i can't watch everything because its all in .mpeg format. Is there a video converter to make it so i can watch it on my computer, and make a highlight package in iMovie?

You should be able to watch mpeg with a player like VLC.

AS for conversion I use MPEG Streamclip to convert to Quicktime MOV format
Squared 5 - MPEG Streamclip video converter for Mac and Windows

But also download Perian (it extends what codecs Quicktime can use ) - Very useful

Okay, but what can I use to convert it to a format that I can use in iMovie?

Actually, googling those terms brings up a lot of spam-scam and nonsense.

You can use MPEG Streamclip (free) to convert the footage. You may need the MPEG-2 Playback component from Apple ($30) to make this work.
