need a better way to covert files
I recently purchased a 27" imac, and I am in the process of transfering some videos off my old pc. The video was shot using a Sony HDD camera. When I tried to import them imovie '09 would not recognize them. I converted the files to .mov using iskysoft video converter. imovie '09 recognizes them, but the conversion killed the quality. Is there a better method, or program I should be using?

Try mpegstreamclip - just realize you will have to pay attention to the settings in the converter to make sure you maintain as high of a quality as you can - it's really easy to screw up your video if your settings are wrong.
