I have a 2 year old macbook pro. It says I can burn Dual Layer DVDs. Last night I tried AGAIN, and iDVD took 7 hours. (I bought Verbatim DVD+R DLs for the record)

It spit out the dvd this morning, I put it in my newest dvd player... It will play all of the menus perfectly fine, but freeze and shut off when I click on any of the videos!

Oh my God, Dual Layers are killing me. Now I've wasted 2 out of my 5.

Welcome to the dark art of burning DL discs.
No idea why it failed, but I have never had any success either.

Try breaking up the process. Use iDVD to create a Disc Image, then try using Disc Utility to burn image to the disc.

Also, confirm that your iDVD project is set to dual layer via the Project window.

Most often DVD error messages are not much help. Sounds like iDVD or some Apple system program is getting confused. Perhaps a restart of the system is advisable too.

When asking questions, post the version of your software. You'll receive better answers.

Please post your results to the thread as it is good feedback.
