Video Playback via DVD Player.app on 10.6
FYI... my Mac Mini quit playing DVD's via the Apple DVD Player.app after I updated to 10.6 from 10.5. I kept getting an error saying something along the line of "No video playback device". After messing around with trying to change regional DVD settings (yes it can be done), I figured it out and it wasn't my DVD drive. 10.6 apparently won't let you play back videos via the DVD Player.app when you have no monitor/display connected. I use screen sharing to access my Mini since it's a media player for my living room. In 10.5 I could start a DVD and view it remotely via screen sharing with no monitor or TV connected to the Mini. 10.6 apparently disables that and won't allow DVD playback without something plugged into the video out port. I'm figuring it has to do with copyright or content management via HDMI and/or the Mini Display port, or something to that extent. Anyhow... Go figure....

    That is all.

Same limitation if you use VLC?

Yep, same thing. There is a nice error log that VLC throws up, which was part of how I figured out the issue. However, VLC works fine (via screen sharing) if it's playing back video from the HDD, put there via Handbrake.

More and more DRM every time we upgrade something.
