can't get imovie 09 to import anything

Tried file import as well as dragging to the project area. The latter does not work at all. The former tries, then immediately results in a messary that imovie can't copy the file. error -43. Does not matter whether it is an .mp4, .mov, .dv or any other file type that imovie is supposed to be able to import, and is not grayed out for file -> import -> movies. I figure I gotta really be doing something stupid simple wrong.

I'm not sure if this will help or not, but here's a KB about that error on Apples' website:

iMovie displays a -43 error when exporting or importing files

you can also try to import video's in the menu where stands import!
