I am not sure if the following is possible, but if it is, it would make life much easier...

I have recently shot an interview which is about 30 minutes long.

Am using 3 camera angles, but only 1 is using the sound I need.

Now.

In an ideal world, I can line up 3 pieces of film in FCP (version 5.1) over eachother and cut away/overlap the clips I would like to use when I wish to do cutaways.

but just use the 1 audio track.

Is there a way of doing this without rendering 3 massive 30 minute clips all at once (which could take until Xmas?)

Or can anybody offer any advice as to the most economical way of editing this type of project?

Multicam Sync in Final Cut Pro at the LAFCPUG site may be helpful.

I'm not sure why you are mentioning rendering 3 clips. A guess is you are bringing in a format that needs conversion.

CameraTime - Time lapse photography for novice and advanced users.

What codec is your source material in?

See what I said in this thread. There are other usable codecs.

Rendering ought not to be too big a deal. "Rendering" in FC only means that the program has to do something to the clip in order to display it smoothly _in FC_. Until it does that, the clip only can be viewed frame by frame. I'd guess a 30-minute clip should take less than five minutes. FC rendering has nothing to do with the long, long process it goes through to convert it to a format usable on a DVD.
