does anyone know why it wont play .avi? whenever i try to play one it gives me this message:

"Additional software is required for QuickTime to playback this media. It may be available from the QuickTime Components Page."

what software do i need?

the stuff im trying to watch worked fine on the older iMac.

it plays .mpg just fine.

on the older iMac, it would give me that message sometimes, but it would play the video just fine, but no audio.

this one doesnt play either. its just black. but the time still ticks away.

im sorry this is such a crappy explanation. i appreciate any help i can get.

Download and install Perian: Perian - The swiss-army knife of QuickTime® components
Video codecs change over time, there are some even Perian wont play.
If it still won't play, try VLC: VideoLAN - Free and Open Source software and video streaming solutions for every OS!
