Question about burning DVDS

I got roxio toast and i can convert movie files to DVD format but they are way too big to fit on to a regular DVD R....how do i get around this?

Mac Specs: iMac i5 2.7GHz OS X.9.4 and OS X.10

You need either a MPEG compressor or a DL burner and DL discs. Do a Google search for these.
