I would like to be able to convert my mini DVDs into standard-size DVDs for potential editing on imovie. My camcorder is a somewhat old Sony that does not have a firewire or USB port. Because my MacBook is not compatible with mini DVDs, I am considering purchasing an external optical drive for converting my mini DVDs into standard size digital DVDs and then using a DVD ripper for Mac to convert them to digital. Do all external optical drives have a spot for mini-DVDs? And are there some that are more compatible with Macs than others? I would appreciate feedback.

The few external players I've payed attention to have always had the ability to use the smaller discs. The spec sheets probably list the ability so double check that. I've only bought Panasonic because the is what Apple was using early on, but I don't think that will be a big issue now. The one in my MBP is apparently made by LG.

The big question will be; what format are the files in and what software (Streamclip?) will you need to convert them to useable media.

CameraTime - Time lapse photography for novice and advanced users.

When asking questions, post the version of your software. You'll receive better answers.

Please post your results to the thread as it is good feedback.
