hey i was wondering is there a free program i can download that will convert an .mkv file to .avi?

Converting mkv to anything can be a bit of a nightmare to be honest as it's just a container that can house many different audio and video types.

That said a good place to startis here:

USE HANDBRAKE!!

I was needing to convert form .mkv to .avi. Select your file and press convert. It really is that easy.

I am no computer wizard therefore i need something easy. This is the one!!!

Mac Specs: 20" Intel iMac 2.4 Ghz/3G Ram/320HD, Snow Leopard. PBook G4, 1.5Ghz/1.5 Ram/250 HD, Leopard 10.5.6.

Kevriano is offline
Old version of Handbrake only, 0.9.3 I think was the last to handle avi.
If not ffmegx will do it too, but Handbrake is way better.
