So I was given a power point and a vcd file to make one movie with for a friends wedding... in 6 days *sob* I only recently got a mac and am still trying to learn my way around it. I'm hoping to be able to create the disc using free software / conversion tools, just dunno what to look for. I would greatly appreciate any help anyone could provide!

You can save Powerpoint files straight out of powerpoint as movies.

If you don't know anyone with powerpoint or don't have it yourself.... there are several convertors around but I've yet to find a free one for mac....maybe others will have an idea.

ffmpegx will convert the mpeg file into an mov file that you can work with in iMovie and/or iDVD
