2 burners, how do I specify?

I am trying to burn a disc from iDVD. I have an internal Pioneer burner and an external burner. My internal burner is worn out so I want to use the external Sony burner. How can I specify that as my preferred burner?
I am a new transplant to the world of Mac from the world of PC, so I'm a little dumb about the mechanics of the OS. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

If you aren't super attached to having an external burner that you can take with you, I would suggest opening the enclosure (prolly gonna need a screwdriver) and swapping the good burner into your computer. There is no system but GNU and Linux is one of its kernels.
