help capturing segments of DVD (unprotected)

I want to know if there is a program that makes it possible to rip just parts of a DVD. These are my own personal DVDs that I've created (unprotected) basically they are past football games and I want to rip just certain plays off of them not the whole game. How do I do this? I have handbrake will that work? Thanks in advance.

I think mpeg streamclip allows marking in and out points for this.
