Hey, I'm currently trying to work on some amateur movies, and iMovie's odd behavior is driving me CRAZY. If I could get any sort of help, I'd appreciate it SO much.

Here's the rundown:

= Attempts to import Photobooth movie to iMovie '08 have failed. iMovie 6 just plain crashes whenever I try.
= File size is probably the reason. It's about eight minutes long and 120 MB.
= Room for the file shouldn't be a problem since it keeps telling me I have 80 GB or something around there.
= When I try to import, it goes through the proper motions, but when it's done, there's no clips. Finder says the movie is in the iMovie event, but its footage never shows up.
= Attempts to upload a very small movie (seven seconds) worked just fine. Smaller movies around the 3 or 4 minute marks have worked, too.

Questions

= It IS the file size, right?
= If it is, can I split the footage in two somehow and upload the segments separately? I don't want to lose what I shot.

Thanks so much!

The problem is NOT the file size. Those tools can handle gigabyte imports.

Via the Help menu, go to Apple's online tutorials to review how importing and libraries work in iM08.

CameraTime - Time lapse photography for novice and advanced users.

When asking questions, post the version of your software. You'll receive better answers.

Please post your results to the thread as it is good feedback.

I've already seen those tutorials. I've been using iM08 for months now, and this has never happened before. I've tried importing other various, smaller files, and they worked just fine. Only this file isn't working, and since QuickTime plays it just fine, I don't think there's something wrong with the file itself.

If it's not size, then what could it be? I'm fairly certain it's not my ineptitude with importing and libraries.

I would check the logs using the Console app in the Utilities folder to see if any tips might show up there.

For iM08, check where it sends the content, ~/Movies/iMovie Events, to see if it is at least getting that far.
