i have the tomtom application, its $99.00 so not that inexpensive.
good:
-has all n american maps internally dosnt need to google for maps.
-will get you better than the google maps offering
-some voice prompts
bad:
-expensive for the level quality level
-voice prompts do not announce the street names, you get a "turn ahead" than "turn in 1.5 miles" "turn in 1.0 miles" "turn in 50 feet" than another "turn ahead". the first prompt is mis leading
-the address entry is not zip code sensitive, the order of entry is odd that does city, street name than address number. you cant cut past address information into these fields
-over all the menus are odd, especially while driving.
-the gps can drop your location, when it tries to correct itself it can produce mis leading maps.
this app is definitely revision zero, worked well in the lab, it might be dangerous to attempt to drive with it.

I use a combo of the "say where " app and goggle maps. Isn't glamours but works great for me and I look up 3-8 address a day. It gives turn by turn and it's free !
Another option is CoPilot Live. In the App store, $35. Works reasonably well, maps have some errors in my locale (Northern Virginia). Sadly, one of them is that my own street is missing. I've let them know, they claim that they will fix and release new maps. I did get a map update download, but the data is still in error. However, minus the errors on the maps, and all GPS systems have them, the software works well.

I actually have had very little problems with the TomTom application. The only thing I wish I had was voiced street names. Aside from that I don't have complaints about the software.
