iPod - closing apps automatically

Mac Specs: Imac G5 17 inch w/ 1 gig of ram, 6 gb ipod mini, and 12" Powerbook G4

I just got my ipod touch, and when im listening to music and surfing the web sometimes the music just stops on its own and i have to go back to it and return on the song. Is the touch just running out of memory or what the heck is going on?
