iPod - Do I just have an old battery? What should I do?

I have an old generation Ipod.... one of the first models made. It's gotten to the point where it can be fully charged and then it only has about 3 hours of battery life, at most. What does this mean? Do I need a new battery or what? Thanks for the help, and sorry if this has been asked already!

Yes it does seem like you need a new battery. Maybe even upgrading to the newer models.
