I recently upgraded to iTunes 7 for my new Shuffle, and nearly every time I try to choose a different playlist, the program closes itself. Luckily, I have been patient enough and tried many times and eventually got the songs transferred to the iPod, but the problem is still occurring.

I am running 10.4 currently.

EDIT: I was wanting to wait a little while to see if an upgrade 10.4.9 would be available instead of doing 10.4.8 now.

Is my OS what is causing it? On the Shuffle box it says it just requires 10.3.9 ... ?

Thanks in advance.

Lot of Mac users complained about a similar problem after updating iTunes to 7.0.1. It was mainly due to wrong Midi settings. Here is how to correct it.

1) Go to Applications > Utilities and open Audio Midi Setup.app
2) Change the Audio Input and Audio Output formats to 44100.0Hz & 2ch-16bit (only if they are different values)

Now it should work fine.

If not, go to ~/Library/Preferences and delete "com.apple.iTunes.plist" and restart iTunes.

novicew,

I checked the Audio Input and Output formats, and they are both set to what you said.

Then, I deleted "com.apple.iTunes.plist" and restarted iTunes, everything reset... but it is still doing the same thig. Each time I try to click a different playlist, it closes.

Could it be something else?

The box says it only requires 10.3.9 so I don't know if updating to 10.4.8 would do anything...?

Now this is a long shot. I recall reading a thread a long time ago that said that this problem was caused by using audio programs in the past that had changed default values. The easiest (if not most intuitive) way to fix it was to start GarageBand, open a new project, hit a few notes and save it off, then quite GarageBand. GarageBand apparently resets everything to normal and all is well.

I must be getting old - I remember the thread, I remember that I had a sound related problem and I remember that this solution, as odd as it sounds, fixed it. Darned if I can remember any more details though. I must be getting old...

Give it a whirl. You have nothing to loose.

Tried the GarageBand idea... no dice.

A friend told me he read about this problem on a different forum, and updating to 10.4.8 fixed the problem... so I guess my original idea may be the way to go. But like I said, the box says it requires 10.3.9, so I don't know why it is doing this...

I will prob update later today or tomorrow, I'll post the result when I try it.

Thanks for all of your input and help!

you should always update your software. many apps close unexpectely due to people not doing updates. its like going to the dentist every 6 months.

you should be running 10.4.9
