Angry Cannot install Ipod Mini software 1.0 for Windows

I just bought an iPod Mini, and when I try to install the iPod Mini 1.0 software for Windows on my Windows XP Pro SP1 system, I get the following error:

InstallShield
1608: Unable to create InstallDriver instance,
Return code: -2147024894

I have followed all of the instructions described on http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108440 with no luck. I did all of the steps and even closed all my programs that were running in the background. I don’t know what else to do. I called Apple and they said it wasn’t their problem—nice. I have a week to return my Ipod to Apple. Can anyone offer insight to my problem?

Thank you in advance,
John

Are you installing off the cd? Maybe you could find a place to download the installer and try with that.

Try executing this from command line, then start installation:
"CProgram Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Driver\8\Intel 32\IDriver.exe" -Embedding
