I keep all my music backed up should my machine die on me, but haven't done it since I got my Mac and didn't use iTunes until I got my Apple machine.

I'm trying to now however, but can't work out how do I get an album folder out of itunes and onto my desktop for example?

The simplest way is to navigate to your iTunes folder with Finder (default is /Users/yourname/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music) and copy the directory out of there onto your desktop. The other way is to create a directory on the desktop, and select and drag tracks from iTunes straight into the folder. The files will be copied out as requested.

Hi Liam,

One method used is something like this:

Your question about getting an album folder out of iTunes and onto your desktop is relatively simple providing I've properly understood it.

Navigate to your iTunes folder in Macintosh HD>Music, then select which folder you want to backup and then just ctrl-click or right-click on it and choose one of 3 options; Duplicate, Create Archive Of, or Copy.

If you choose Duplicate, one will be created alongside it's original in the iTunes Music folder and all you have to do is just drag it to the desktop.

If you choose Copy then just return to Finder and ctr-click/right-click on the desktop and 'Paste' the folder there.

If you choose Create Archive Of, I would create an archive of your complete iTunes folder. If you decide to do this, a zip file will be created in Macintosh HD>Music>iTunes. Then just transfer it to a safe location.

I'm sure there are other methods but these are the ones I offer.
