I have an IPod Photo (20G) - it is about 2 years old. The disc is about 1/2 full. I am a recent Mac owner and recently moved from using a WinXP hosted ITunes to an OSX hosted version.

I am running an iMac 20 with OSX and iTunes 7.0.1

When I connect my Ipod it is recognised by ITunes but it says that the disc cannot be read from or written to.

Finder sees the IPod and I can browse the disc from Finder.

Looking at Summary Info on ITunes I can see s/w version 1.2.1 and Format is still Windows (although I am certain I have updated it from the iMac since getting the iMac about a month ago)

Should I use RESTORE and reinitialise the Ipod and then resync to acquire MAC format ? Is that the issue ? Any other ideas ?
QUOTE Thanks

I downloaded and used YamiPod when a Windows formatted iPod was connected to my Mac. The interface is easy on the eyes and you can select/drag'n'drop to your hearts delight.

I'm sure that if an iPod is formatted on Windows then any Mac will see it and launch iTunes when it's connected.

There's also Senuti which will import playlists too, something YamiPod doesn't do.

Sorery I am being dense - what exactly are you suggesting Yamipod and Senuti will do for me that I need to do and cannot do with ITunes ?

They enable the user to access the contents of their iPod on a Mac/PC without the use of iTunes.

I suggested them in case you needed to access your songs before reformatting your iPod.

I can't see any reason not to give it a go, as long as you are aware that doing so will erase the entire contents of your iPod....

I'm actually having the same problem, although this is the first time I've encountered it! I've had my mac for three months and that has never popped up before. So all I have to do is click Restore and that might fix it?
Thanks for all your help!!

I had a problem with my windows-formatted ipod video on my mac (disc errors..I don't remember the exact symptoms). I use disk utility to repair the disk and had no problems after that...plus it didn't force me to wipe the ipod clean.

You may want to try disk utility first, then use restore if all else fails.
