Using your iPod when on holiday

I have a question and it is one that I have been getting mixed answers to:

If I take my iPod abroad, and it is “tied” to my home computer, if I want to buy a track when on my holiday, how can I get this onto my iPod?

Some people are telling me that you can’t i.e. an iPod is tied to one computer and once you take it away from that computer you can’t add anything to it.

Others are saying that you can put tracks onto your iPod, no matter where you are.

Does anyone here know the definitive answer?

Is there a non complex way for a user with basic knowledge to buy tracks when on holiday abroad to put on their iPod?

Any help with this would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

yeah when you use manual update you can sync your ipod to another PC/Mac (deepending on the format of your iPod) as long as it is using iTunes..

Trying to reach nirvana one day at a time... :mac:

they have it correct

when the ipod is plugged in, just click on the ipod icon in the bottom toolbar of itunes and select manual update to add just that cd to your ipod

if you go back home, and you select automatic update without uploading the cd into your library and then plug in your ipod, it will be erased, so remember to upload the cd

However, PC's can't read Mac formatted drives, but Mac can read PC formatted drives. Remember that, it is helpful Mine is always setup on Windows even though it is Mac.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Still not that sure about it (I am a bit useless with it all I am afraid)….

So, when abroad, can I buy a track from iTunes and/or another third party store selling MP3s on a PC OR Mac (even if neither has iTunes on it)? Also, will this process be simple enough for anyone to do?

OR

Will the computer abroad HAVE to have iTunes on it and in any circumstance, if you buy the track when abroad, will you lose it when you next plug your iPod into your home computer?

Any ideas?

Thanks!

iTunes is 100% necessary, you must have it to update the ipod

If you dont put the track onto your home computer before you get home and update it again, you will lose it

Hope this helps

You definately DON'T need itunes to transfer music to your iPod. Check out anapod explorer and ephpod, both are pretty simple solutions.
