Besides music, photos and video, what else can you do with your iPod? i understand you can download some programs and things like that but i haven't found much about it. Besides having a color screen, is there something that the iPod Photo can do that the 4th gen can't?

I think you may be talking about iPod Linux. There's everything from GameBoy emulator's to recording music from one iPod to another to running a web server off of it. Great source. I'm thinking of putting it onto my new 3rd gen and giving it a cool GameBoy-esque paintjob and installing the GameBoy emulator on it.

I'd use Windows... but I like the Mac OS more.

That's a good link, but is not what i have in mind. I don't have an iPod but i'm thinking about getting one. I want to know what else can they do in their "natural" state... for example i just remembered that some guy make maps of the New York subway for his iPod Photo, but i can't find the website, that is the kind of things i'm looking for.

Well, when you install iPodLinux, a whole new bunch of apps are open to you. I'm not sure exactly what, but I know that you can put Doom on your iPod with iPodLinux.

Yeah, too bad I didn't find out about this until I came back from my trip to NYC.

Here's the link: Subway maps for iPod

Here are some really cool things I've found to do with the 'pod.
Pod2Go - amazing all-in-one program

PartyPod - haven't used it yet, but looks cool

TrailRunner - Plan your route

iWorkout - looks pretty cheesy, but might be good

Podtender - You 21? If not, this ain't for you

iRocker - Expensive, but looks pretty neat!

iLingo - Brilliant! next paycheck, I'm getting this one!

There's sure to be so many more things to do, but hope this is a good start.
Have fun!

Break down. I've had to replace mine just about every 1-11 months. I handle them with care, never dropped etc. Emperical evidence suggests they're not well made. I'll get another as my 4th gen click took it's last breath tonight. I suggest the Apple Care warranty extension. I guarantee the replacement(s) you will require down the line will more than cover the upfront expense of the plan.
