mpeg to Ipod Video (320x240)

I have a few music videos in .mpg format and used QuickTime Pro 7.0 to convert to Ipod Video through exporting. But when I play the files in iTunes or on my Ipod Video there is no sound but the video plays fine. The files that seem to work okay are .avi.
I've tried converting to .mpg to .avi first but that has no sound either, can anyone help?

quicktime pro is pants!!

iSquint is what i use and its awesome as well as being free

used iSquint and it worked a treat and a little bit faster at encoding than QT Pro in some cases. Well recommended!

My ipod does it too. i will get videos off of limewire and put them into itunes, and then convert it but it leaves the sound. im bamboozled.

Can you recommend a program that will work with windows?
