Video Ipod freezing on Apple black background

My new Ipod 60g video won't start up past the apple screen. I try to reset it with the commands but to no avail. I can feel the hard drive moving but I dont know? Is my Ipod dead?

and you've already held the center + play/pause button simultaneously for several seconds? Mine did that after the initial charge but eventually turned off. I started it again with no problem

Plug your iPod into your mac/pc and run the latest iPod software update.

set your ipod video into disk mode check it out on the apple support website.

run the ipod updater to restore it and do it in disk mode if needed
