Burning audio cd's through iTunes

I have a Pioneer 8X dual-layer superdrive in my mac mini and on occasion when I try to burn a cd through iTunes, I end up burning a coaster because I get message saying the burn speed is too fast, what causes that? The media that I'm used is rated 52X.

The media itself may be rated for that, but the app is what's producing a coaster. The burn engine in iTunes is pretty rudimentary and I've gotten buffer overflow errors before, too. Also, when you burn a CD, close all non-essential apps. This may help free up CPU cycles and RAM cache.
