Hi all, maybe you guys can help me out. I work a lot in video, and I sometimes use cds that have mp3s of sound fx and stuff like that, tons, millions of them.

The thing is, when I load them to check them out (iTunes is the default handler for mp3s), they load into my Library.

But afterwards, I put out the disk, but they still keep in my library. If I try to play them, I get an exclamation point besides them.

And this happens with every single thing I play that I DO NOT want to put in my Library.

Is there any way that iTunes can refresh my library and my library only and get rid of all the stuff from that I played a year ago from a mp3 disc?

Thanks guys.

I drank what?

I'm sorry,

THIS is the true name of the thread... not "refresh playlists", which is misguided and a lot easier to do.

Thanks.

as far as i know there isn't a way to do this.

you could always change mp3's default handler to QuickTime and then if you ever want to put anything in your iTunes library, just drag them into it. I find QuickTime's a lot better for just listening to the odd mp3 that you don't wanna keep in iTunes.

Yep, that's exact what I do, use Quicktime. And if I'm going to be listening to many, I'll use VLC.

I too move a large volume of files around frequently and have had a lot of trouble getting the library to update. I keep all of my music in two main folders though so the easiest way to do it is to hit cntrl + A in itunes and press delete. After it prepares it will ask you if you want to delete the files by putting them in the recycling bin or if you want to keep the files. CLICK KEEP THE FILES or you will be sorry. Then just add the main folder you keep your music in manually. This method takes a little time but it is the easiest I have found for using itunes.

This may work:

iTunes > Prefs > Advanced > Importing > On CD Insert:

Make sure it is set to "Ask to import CD" or "Show CD" vice "Import CD".
