"Gift Song" rip off

I was curious to what would happen if I gifted a song to someone and the recipient already had purchased the song. So, I did it.

My friend received the "You've been gifted a song" notice on his email, he clicked it, and the song (which he had already purchased from the iTunes Music Store) began to download (now for the second time). This is ridiculous.

It seems that it would be beneficial to both Mac and the users of the Music Store to simply put an "I already own this song" button on the page so that users pick another song in the event of a duplicate.

Apple says that the gift code is transferrable, but that's no good. How many stores in the world won't let someone return a gift for at least a store credit?

If I was to gift someone a particular song, there would obviously be a reason as to why I was gifting them that particular song. If they was to just decide to download another song instead of the one I intended I would probably be quite irritated by that. If I wanted someone to just download some songs of their own choice I'd buy them a iTunes gift voucher.

They definitely keep track of what music people have and it seems like they would send them the credit for that song and if the person already has the song, then they would just credit them one song.. whatever they want.. seems pretty simple and definitely an oversight! Did you email them and give them a bit of feedback on it?

Still you should always check, if you are close with someone enough to give them gifts you should have a clue what they have. I have no problem asking people if you have this and that because what do they know. They don't know I am going to send them the item as a gift, it's just a question usually unless you are asking someone's ring size or something. I agree that refunds should be given but still you have to be in the know sometimes. I have bought my Dad duplicate books before. He has every friggin war book out there. :black:

I certainly would just buy a gift certificate, but the lowest dollar denomination is $10... that's too much.

And I would be purchasing someone a particular song because i think they would like it. If that's the case, there's the chance that they might have it.

There should definetly be a way to return a song. If someone were to ask me whether i had a particular song or not, unless i am sitting right in front of my computer, I would have ahard time telling them a definite yes or no. With digital music it is easy to rack up thousands of songs. It is easy to overook one song, and I havent a clue what songs my buddies have. Any store with decent customes service should have a return centeror a way to decline a song.
